Jones & Darr

Gary recalls the first time he saw Levi play.  It was at Luckenbach, Texas.  It was a summer afternoon and the gathering of pickers, were sharing their music and songs, under the big oak trees outside the store.  “I kept watching this one guitar picker,” says Gary “because he seemed to play a killer lead with every song.  When it came to my turn in the circle, I played an original tune.  And this lead guitar picker, who had never heard the song before, nailed the lead first time!”  Needless to say Gary was impressed.  He soon learned that the “picker” was Levi Darr. .  At the time Levi was playing in the Scott Rotge band and Gary was playing solo gigs in and around the hill country.

As an outlet for playing live between scheduled gigs, Gary and Levi continued to join the songwriter’s circle in that famous little Texas town.  As Gary grew more and more impressed with Levi’s style of lead guitar, Levi began to notice a quality in Gary’s original songs that he liked.  “I’ve played with lots of people and I never really pay attention to the words of a song.  I’m more inclined to hear melodies and chords.  But, with Gary’s music it’s different.  His songs stuck in my head and I began to know the words and sing along with him whenever I had the chance.”

Soon the chances of playing together became more and more frequent.  The two briefly joined a five piece band called “4 Hats & A Cap”.  (Guess who was the cap?)  The 5 piece band soon dwindled down to three members and, Gary and Levi formed a trio with Hal Brown called “Brothers From Another Mother”.  Quickly gaining a following and developing their sound into Texas Rock and Blues the “Brothers” were booked throughout the summer of 2006 and recorded a live CD.  Late in the summer Hal left the band and Gary and Levi chose to remain together as a duo.

Gary Michael Jones & Levi Darr are two very talented artists who are gifted in their own right but, when joined together, on stage, become a musical force.  Gary Michael Jones plays a powerful rhythm guitar and sings unforgettable original songs.  Levi Darr plays “killer” lead and sings harmonies.  Levi has versitility on stage.  He can play lead guitar and sing good ole' rock classics and then switch to his fiddle and pull out country favorites.  Both talents compliment each other.  Gary’s songs showcase the talent of Levi’s guitar.  Levi’s guitar adds an unforgettable sound to Gary’s songs.

This is the way live music is suppose to be played – real, original and unforgettable!
